Due to the fact that consumers feel like it’s healthier and provides a better high, vaping marijuana products has become increasingly popular. When it comes to vaping marijuana, there are two main types of product to consider–distillate and live resin.

Distillate is an extract from the cannabis plant that concentrates a particular cannabinoid, like CBD or THC. Once a hemp plant is grown, harvested, dried, and then cured, it is extracted into an oil. The oil then goes through a distillation process to extract cannabis compounds. Typically, the purpose of distillation is to separate all of the THC out of the oil to make a potent liquid.

On the other hand, live resin vapes are made from the cannabis flower itself. At their peak growth, cannabis plants are harvested and quickly flash-frozen to keep all the terpenes and cannabinoids intact. After the freezing process takes place, the frozen marijuana flowers are extracted into a thick resin.

The biggest difference between distillate marijuana products and live resin products is the terpene content. Terpenes are responsible for the various aromas and flavors associated with making different strains of cannabis taste or smell differently from each other. The distillation process removes the terpene content after extraction, whereas creating a live resin preserves most, if not all, of the terpene content.

While terpenes are not psychoactive, like the THC cannabinoid, they play a very important part in how a marijuana product affects someone. Along with cannabinoids, terpenes help create what’s known as the entourage effect. This effect works the most effectively when there are multiple cannabinoids and terpenes working together to provide a more beneficial experience to the consumer.

The choice between a distillate or live resin marijuana product is all based on a consumer’s personal preferences. One isn’t better than the other and each provides a specific experience. Rather than choosing a marijuana product based on whether it is a distillate or live resin, consumers should consider purity and quality.

There are many marijuana manufacturers out there that don’t adhere to strict guidelines when it comes to creating their products, so it is essential for a consumer like you to shop at reputable dispensaries that include reputable manufacturers. Most marijuana manufacturers provide access to their labs tests for every single batch so consumers can make sure the cannabis product they’re interested in meets their own requirements.
